SWING
STATE

One Senate seat. Eighteen counties. Forty-two days. Run the campaign in Calder, a made-up swing state: train canvassers, charter rally buses, run ad vans and send pollsters into the fog, against an opponent that plays by the same rules. Then watch results night paint the map.

Calder, its counties, both parties and both candidates are made up. No real party, person or race is shown. Legal

How to play

Win Calder

Get more votes than your opponent statewide on Election Day. Every county counts by its size, so a big city matters, but small counties are cheaper to move.

Each county's tint shows who you think leads there: the stronger the colour, the safer. Hatched counties are in the fog: you see your last poll, not what's happening now.

Your units

⭐ Candidate bus: rallies (big swing, attention, volunteers) and fundraisers. 🚶 Canvassers: knock doors, win the undecided and get your voters out; best in small counties. 📺 Ad vans: ads in the county and next door; cost money every day. 📋 Pollsters: lift the fog nearby and sharpen your poll. 🚌 Surrogate buses: smaller rallies.

Tap a unit, then tap a county to send it. Pinch to zoom, drag to look around.

Click a unit (drag a box for several), then click or right-click a county to send it. Wheel zooms, right-drag or arrow keys pan.

Money, volunteers, attention

Train units at your HQ or a field office (open one where a unit stands). Money comes from donors every day, more with high attention; fundraisers bring more. Volunteers come from your offices.

News breaks every few days: pick a response before the timer runs out. Early voting opens two thirds of the way in: from then on, getting your voters out counts double.
