About Ghost Gig
Ghost Gig is a free Halloween rhythm game. You are the ghost in a haunted mansion's house band, and every room of the mansion is a new song and a new instrument: drums in the Foyer, slap bass in the Cellar, a wheezing organ in the Library, a theremin under the moon window in the Attic and the horns in the Ballroom, where the whole mansion plays at midnight.
Notes fly down four candle-lit lanes. Hit them on the beat and your part plays in the band; miss and your instrument drops out until you find the groove again. Keep a streak going and your ghost swoops at the front door to scare the trick-or-treaters, who drop their candy and run. Miss too much and the lights come on: you are booed out.
All five tracks are original spooky-funk, composed in code and played live in your browser with sample-accurate timing. It is made for phones first, so it plays in portrait with big tap lanes, and works just as well on a keyboard.
How to play
- Hit the notes on the line. Tap the lane (phone) or press D, F, J or K (keyboard) as each note reaches the line. Long glowing trails are held notes: keep holding to the end.
- Watch the spirit bar. Good hits fill it, misses drain it. If it empties, the song ends early.
- Build a streak. Every 10 in a row raises your multiplier, up to ×4. Every 25 in a row your ghost scares the trick-or-treaters for bonus points and candy.
- Clear rooms to open the mansion. Each room unlocks the next. Easy, Normal and Hard have their own charts; Hard adds chords and denser lines.
- Calibrate if the timing feels off, especially with Bluetooth headphones: tap along to eight clicks and the game sets your offset.
- Dress up your ghost. Candy unlocks outfits: a bow tie, a top hat, a pumpkin crown and a vampire collar.

Is Ghost Gig free?
Yes. It runs in your browser on phones and computers, with nothing to install.
Is the music from real songs?
No. All five tracks are original, composed by code and played live in your browser. Nothing is sampled or copied from a recording.
Can I play it on my phone?
Yes, it was designed for phones first. It plays in portrait with four big tap lanes; landscape works too.
The notes feel early or late. What do I do?
Open Calibrate from the menu and tap along to the clicks. Bluetooth headphones add a delay, so calibrate with the headphones you play with.
How long is it?
Each song is about two minutes, so the five rooms take about ten minutes on Easy. Normal and Hard re-chart every song.
How do I get on the leaderboard?
Create a free account (18+). Your best single song and your tour score (the best score in each room added up) are saved.
